Hexaloop privacy policy

This document is intended to give you exhaustive information on our data policies. We take your private data as a very important matter, and you will find below why we collect some information, and what is done with it.

Keep in mind Hexaloop is a game in development, and we're always in the process of improving it along with this privacy policy.

In this document, "we" refers to the developers of Hexaloop.

Last update: 2019-09-26.

What information do we collect?

Upon registration

We collect your username, your hashed password (meaning we can't retrieve your password, we can only verify it's correct when you log in), and optionally your email address.

In the game

Whenever you add something to the map (territory, miner, rover, etc), we collect your location. More precisely, we collect the coordinates of the hexagon surrounding you, not your precise location within that hexagon.

Some of your actions are stored in a database for gameplay purposes (for example your inventory, the achievements you have completed, your market orders, etc).

You can choose (but are not required) to upload a profile picture. This picture is stored on our servers and displayed to other players.

Through internet protocols

When you interact with our servers (by playing in the game), your IP address is collected and may be saved in server logs. In some cases, your IP address may reveal your affiliation (for example your internet access provider) or your geographical zone. We might only use your IP address for debugging purposes, such as monitoring server performances or investigating connectivity issues.

Why do we need to collect this data?

All the data we collect about you is collected for the game purposes. Indeed, Hexaloop is a location-based game, so interacting with it requires us to collect your location.

Your email address is (at your own choice) collected during the registration in order to better manage your user account, for example if you lose your password it is necessary to know it to send you a reset link.

With whom do we share this information?

Your username can be shown to other players in the game. We encourage you to choose an anonymous username, that is, one that doesn't permit other players to link it to you.

Within the game, the hexagons you have placed will be visible to the other players. While they can't directly know it's you who placed these hexagons, this information can sometimes be inferred, for example if you're the only player in an area, other players can guess it's you who placed the hexagons if they look at the dashboard (where you'd be the only one in the players list). Also keep in mind that other users of the game could share screenshots of the Dashboard where your username appears.

We reserve the right to use your information for marketing or statistics purposes. This includes (but is not limited to) screenshots of the game for Google Play, or statistics shown on our website.

Outside of the game, we reserve the rights to use your data, but always anonymously (removing your username and email address). This can include third-parties.

We don't share or sell your email address with anyone.

Can your data ever be leaked outside of Hexaloop?

We do our best to secure our servers. However, a data breach is always possible. If it happens, we will notify you (by email if you provided one, and on our website) and take all the necessary measures to reduce the damage.

Your rights on your data

You have the rights to access, update, or delete your personal data. Contact us for any request you might have.

You can delete your account at any time, if you're logged in. Go to Settings, Delete account. All your personal information will be deleted forever on our servers.

If you didn't provide an email address during your registration, we consider your data to be "anonymous" and not personal data.

Third-party software

We use Mapbox to display the map. Mapbox collects map and location data anonymously (read more about it). You can opt-out of it by tapping the Mapbox icon (in the bottom left corner of the map), then "Telemetry settings", "Disagree".
